In a bid to enhance connectivity and accommodate the growing number of commuters, Chennai Metro Rail Company is set to introduce 20 new mini-buses that will operate from various Metro Rail Stations. This move is part of a broader initiative to provide convenient link facilities for Chennai Metro Rail passengers, aimed at increasing daily ridership.
Currently serving approximately 2.50 to 2.80 lakh passengers daily, Chennai Metro Rail services have become an integral part of the city’s public transportation system. The authorities are determined to further elevate the metro’s reach and accessibility. One significant step in achieving this goal is the introduction of additional mini-bus services connecting to Metro Rail Stations.
Officials at Chennai Metro Rail have shared crucial insights into this development:
Expanding Link Facilities: Chennai Metro Rail Stations have already been facilitating commuters with mini-buses, shared-autos, and battery-operated autos that connect them to vital railway stations and bus termini, offering seamless access to residential areas.
The Next Phase: As part of the expansion plan, Chennai Metro Rail is set to roll out an additional fleet of 20 mini-buses. The routes for these new mini-buses are currently in the final stages of preparation, ensuring they cover key areas of the city to maximize their utility.
Enhancing Connectivity: The introduction of these 20 mini-buses is expected to further boost the accessibility of Chennai Metro Rail services. Commuters will benefit from improved connectivity to various parts of the city, making their daily commute more convenient and efficient.
Next Steps: A comprehensive list detailing the routes and other essential information for the upcoming mini-bus services will soon be made available to senior officials of the Chennai Metro City Transport Corporation. This will facilitate coordination and smooth integration of these services into the existing transportation network.
With this proactive approach to enhancing public transportation, Chennai Metro Rail Company aims to not only meet the increasing demand for metro services but also contribute to a more sustainable and accessible urban environment for the residents of Chennai.
