A 17-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide at Vijayapuram in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukottai district on Tuesday after his school teachers scolded him over his hairstyle and not getting his hair cut.
The deceased Matheswaran, was a class 12 student of a Government Model Higher Secondary School in the district.
According to police, Matheswaran had grown his hair and had a beard, the school teachers constantly reprimanded him by telling him to keep his hair and beard trimmed when in school. However, he did not take their words seriously and came to school without cutting his hair on Tuesday as usual.
Subsequently, his class teacher took him to the Principal and later he was sent out from school. Matheswaran was told that he would be allowed to attend classes only after a proper haircut.
When the boy did not return home for a long time in the evening, his parents contacted the school who then informed them about the incident that had transpired earlier in the day. Later, they found his dead body hanging from a tree at an isolated place behind the school where he was studying.
