AIADMK urges Puducherry government to reconsider power tariff hike

AIADMK urges Puducherry government to reconsider power tariff hike All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has strongly urged the Puducherry government to withdraw its decision to increase power tariffs. The party’s secretary, A. Anbalagan, emphasized that the government’s justification for this hike, which aims to compensate for increased power procurement costs, is not acceptable to them. According to Anbalagan, the government recently incurred an additional expenditure of approximately ₹38 crore over the past three months to procure power. Instead of passing this financial burden onto consumers, he suggested that the government should take responsibility for covering these extra costs. Anbalagan proposed that the government should provide grants to the Electricity Department, thereby ensuring that the additional expenses do not get transferred to consumers in the form of tariff hikes. This approach, he believes, would be fairer and more considerate of the financial strain that such tariff hikes can place on the residents of Puducherry.
