In September, CMRL witnessed a remarkable surge in passenger traffic, with a total of 8,437,182 passengers traveling across all its corridors. This milestone has pushed the total count of metro passengers to an impressive 66,17,247 for the year so far.
The journey of Chennai Metro’s success in 2023 began with a promising start in January when 6,607,458 passengers chose to ride the metro trains. This trend continued with 6,369,282 passengers in February, 6,999,341 in March, and 6,685,432 in April. As the summer months arrived, more people turned to the metro for their daily commutes, with 7,268,007 passengers in May and 7,406,876 passengers in June.
However, it was in July and August that Chennai Metro Rail truly hit its stride, with a remarkable increase in ridership. July recorded an astonishing 8,253,692 passengers, and August reached a new high with 8,589,977 passengers, setting the stage for the impressive numbers achieved in September.
