The Tamil Nadu government today increased the Dearness Allowance by 4% from 42% to 46% on par with union government employees. The new DA hike will be implemented retrospectively from July 1, 2023.

Around 16 lakh employees and teachers will benefit from this hike which will add Rs.2,546 crore to the expense of the exchequer.

Announcing the DA hike in a statement, Chief Minister MK Stalin mentioned ā€œDespite the severe financial crisis and debt burden left behind by the previous AIADMK government, this government has been working to fulfill its promises on various demands of government officials and teachers.
Notably, the Tamil Nadu govt made this announcement days after the central government decided to increase 4 percent hike for the dearness allowance from 42 percent to 46 percent. The decision is expected to benefit 48.67 lakh central government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners.
