Chennai, Oct 28: In a recent address to party cadre in Kangeyam, Tirupur, Edappadi K Palaniswami, the general secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), expressed his concerns about the state of affairs in Tamil Nadu under the rule of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party. Palaniswami’s speech highlighted various issues faced by the people of Tamil Nadu over the last two and a half years and called for change in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Palaniswami began by pointing out the troubles experienced by the people of Tamil Nadu across different sectors, including farming, industries, and weaving, during the DMK’s tenure. He emphasized that these issues have resulted in hardship for the citizens.
One of the critical problems highlighted by Palaniswami was the frequent power cuts affecting farmers. He mentioned that during the AIADMK’s rule, a continuous and reliable power supply was ensured for farmers. However, the DMK’s claim of distributing two lakh pump sets has not translated into a stable power supply, leaving farmers struggling. The agricultural sector has also suffered due to declining prices of key crops, particularly coconuts and copra.
Palaniswami also drew attention to the adverse impact of power interruptions on industrial operations. The lack of consistent electricity supply has disrupted manufacturing and production, affecting numerous industries in the state.
The weaving sector has faced significant challenges as well. Weavers, unable to secure fair prices for their products, have been forced to seek alternative livelihoods. Power loom businesses have suffered, leading to weavers selling their looms. Under the AIADMK government, weavers and workers were guaranteed jobs and fair wages. However, this security has been eroded in recent years, he added.
Palaniswami concluded his speech by asserting that the farming and textile sectors in Tamil Nadu have been severely impacted, and the state as a whole is on a path of destruction under the DMK’s rule. He called for change in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, indicating the need for a shift in leadership to address the challenges faced by the people of Tamil Nadu.
