K Annamalai, the President of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took a strong stand against the ruling DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government, accusing it of fostering a climate of lawlessness in the state. Annamalai’s comments come in response to a series of recent incidents, including the attack on BJP functionaries and revenue officials at the Perambalur district collectorate.
The BJP leader did not mince words, declaring that under the DMK regime, Tamil Nadu has become a “home of rowdies.” He pointed to the violent attack on government officials at the Perambalur collectorate, which has raised concerns about the safety of public servants and the common people in the state.
Annamalai emphasized that governance by a “rowdy gang” is unsustainable and called on Chief Minister Stalin to take immediate action against those responsible for the violence in Perambalur. He urged the state government to apprehend the DMK members involved in the attack.
The BJP’s reaction is prompted by a recent incident in which over 300 supporters of State Transport Minister SS Sivasankar and Perambalur DMK MLA M Prabhakaran disrupted an attempt by a BJP functionary to submit a tender application for 31 stone quarries. The confrontation led to physical altercations, with several individuals, including village panchayat officials, district BJP leaders, an assistant director of mines, an assistant geology officer, a revenue inspector, and journalists, being assaulted by DMK workers.
Announcing the incident, Annamalai argued that the DMK government has created an unsafe environment for government officials across the state. These events have raised concerns about the rule of law in Tamil Nadu and have added to the already existing political tensions between the BJP and the DMK.
