The government authorities have reclaimed a 4.5-acre parcel of government-owned land near the Kathipara flyover. This valuable land, estimated to be worth 800 crores, had been illegally encroached upon by private companies and commercial complexes, leading to the construction of a bank and numerous houses without any legal lease agreement or compensation to the government. The authorities have taken prompt action to rectify this situation, marking a crucial step in reclaiming public property.Â
The encroachment of government-owned land by private entities is not an uncommon issue in many regions. In this specific case, the illegal construction of a commercial complex, a bank, and multiple houses had taken place on a piece of government land. The total estimated value of this encroached property is a staggering 800 crores, underscoring the magnitude of the issue.
The Chengalpattu district administration took decisive measures to address this encroachment. They instructed Pallavaram revenue officials to secure the government-owned land swiftly. A joint operation involving revenue officials and local law enforcement was conducted on Thursday morning. During this operation, the commercial complex, the bank, and several houses were sealed, signaling the government’s intent to rectify the situation and protect public assets.
