DMK leader RS Bharathi has found himself in the midst of a controversy after his comments on the eating habits of people from Nagaland. The comments have sparked outrage and led to a war of words between Bharathi and Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, who previously served as the Governor of Nagaland.
The controversy started when Governor RN Ravi accused RS Bharathi of making derogatory remarks about the people of Nagaland, referring to them as “Dog eaters.” In response, Bharathi vehemently denied having made any critical comments about the people of Nagaland and insisted that Governor Ravi had misunderstood his statement.
Bharathi’s statement, as reported by the media, included a passing reference to the eating habits of the people of Nagaland and Tamil Nadu. He remarked that the people of Nagaland, who are known to consume dog meat, do so with a sense of dignity. Bharathi compared this to the eating habits of the people of Tamil Nadu, who typically eat rice with salt, and suggested that the sense of dignity of Tamil people should not be forgotten.
Governor Ravi took offense to Bharathi’s comments and publicly criticized him, stating, “Nagas are brave, honest, and dignified people. Thiru RS Bharathi, a senior DMK leader, publicly insulting them as ‘Dog eaters,’ is scurrilous and unacceptable. I urge Bharathi not to hurt a community of which the whole of India is proud.”
