AIADMK’s General Secretary.Edappadi K. Palaniswami, called upon the DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) government to ensure that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) application for digging 20 exploratory wells in Ramanathapuram district for hydrocarbon exploration is rejected.

In a post shared on his social media platform, Mr. Palaniswami expressed his concerns about the environmental and social implications of hydrocarbon exploration and urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to be vigilant and not repeat the mistakes of the past, particularly referencing a previous methane gas development project. He emphasized that the Chief Minister should not be “casual” in handling this matter and should take a firm stance against ONGC’s proposal.

Palaniswami further stressed that it is imperative for the Chief Minister not to align with ONGC’s interests but to prioritize the well-being and interests of the local population and the environment. He urged CM Stalin to ensure that the application is rejected at the initial stage, sending a clear message that the state government is committed to safeguarding the interests of the people and the region.
