Traffic diversions for Deepavali announced

For Deepavali, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police have initiated a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety for residents. As the city anticipates increased footfall in key shopping areas like T. Nagar, Purasawalkam, MC Road, Washermenpet, and Koyambedu, the focus is on preventing traffic obstructions caused by haphazard parking.
In preparation for the festive rush, the Traffic Police are urging shoppers to utilize designated public parking lots strategically placed in these key areas. The proactive approach aims to curtail traffic disruptions and ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists during the festive season.
To address safety concerns related to firecrackers, vendors in Flower Bazaar have been relocated. The public is reminded that carrying crackers on two-wheelers poses a risk, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety guidelines.
In densely populated areas like Purasavakkam and T. Nagar, measures have been implemented to ease congestion. Empty autos are prohibited in these zones, and pedestrians are encouraged to cross roads at less crowded spots while arranging for auto journeys to minimize traffic bottlenecks.
Goods vehicles are restricted in these high-traffic areas, with loading and unloading activities recommended during nighttime to reduce daytime congestion. Motorists heading to T. Nagar via CIT Nagar are advised to follow an alternative route, traveling up to Kannammapet junction and then turning left to navigate via Muthurangan Road to Usman Road, avoiding more congested routes.
To facilitate celebrations, special parking arrangements have been made at key locations, including Somasundaram Park on Thiagaraya Road, Thanikasalam Road, Nachiyar Road in Mahalakshmi Street, and two-wheeler parking at Mothilal Street in T. Nagar. In Purasawalkam, parking options include the Municipal Corporation Ground on Narayana Guru Road, Ewart School on Alagappa Road, ELM School Ground on Purasavakkam Highway Road, and GE Kovil Street.
For those heading to Koyambedu, alternative public transportation options like Chennai Metro and city buses are recommended to alleviate traffic congestion. Special buses are arranged for individuals traveling to hometowns during the festive season, and the public is urged to cooperate with these transport arrangements.
