The recent World Cup final in Ahmedabad showcased a thrilling contest between India and Australia, with the latter emerging victorious by six wickets. Several key factors contributed to India’s defeat, highlighting areas where the team struggled to adapt and execute their game plan. Ahmedabad’s pitch, slower and drier than anticipated, played a pivotal role in shaping the outcome. India, however, failed to adapt effectively, especially in the second innings when the pitch dynamics underwent a significant change. The team struggled to capitalize on the slower conditions, ultimately impacting their overall performance.
Australia’s success can be attributed to their impeccable planning and execution. Despite India’s initial surge, captain Pat Cummins showcased strategic brilliance with well-timed bowling changes that kept the Indian batters in check. The Australian team maintained composure throughout the match, showcasing tactical mastery under pressure. India’s inability to build substantial partnerships was a glaring weakness. Apart from a lone half-century stand between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, the team failed to establish significant collaborations, limiting their final total. The lack of consistent partnerships became a major hurdle in India’s quest for a competitive score.
The World Cup final highlighted the need for India to enhance their adaptability, strategic planning, and middle-order resilience. While acknowledging Australia’s tactical brilliance, India must use this experience as a stepping stone for future success, learning from the shortcomings that cost them the coveted trophy in Ahmedabad.
