Chennai, Nov 20: As the festive season approaches, the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation (TNTC) is gearing up to meet the heightened demand for transportation during Pongal with an ambitious plan to add 1666 new buses to its existing fleet of 18,000. The transport department’s proactive approach aligns with the significant surge in travel during festivals, exemplified by the 5.50 lakh people who traveled from Chennai to their hometowns in Tamil Nadu during the recent Deepavali festivities.
Recognizing the vital role that efficient and expansive transportation plays during festive periods, the transport department is keen on acquiring the new buses before the Pongal festival in January 2024. Officials from the department have highlighted the substantial travel demand anticipated during Pongal, emphasizing the necessity of bolstering the existing fleet to cater to the needs of the public.
