Over 9 lakh youngsters enlist as First-Time Voters in TN

Over 9 lakh youngsters in Tamilnadu have eagerly submitted forms to register with the electoral rolls, contributing to a surge that is set to increase the number of first-time voters in the state to more than 14 lakh. This surge in applications comes as part of the Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Roll 2024. Since the publication of the draft electoral rolls on October 27, a total of 15.33 lakh applications have flooded in, encompassing requests for inclusion, deletion, and correction in the electoral rolls. The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has reported that the majority of these applications, a staggering 9,13,535 to be precise, have been from eligible youngsters ready to exercise their right to vote. Coimbatore district leads the charge among the youth, with 48,577 applicants, followed closely by Thiruvallur with 46,466 applications and Chennai with 43,055 applications, showcasing a widespread enthusiasm for democratic participation among the state’s young populace. This surge in voter registration is not merely a numerical increase but a testament to the civic consciousness of the state’s youth. The initiative, aimed at encouraging first-time voters to actively participate in the electoral process, aligns with the democratic ethos of empowering the next generation. As part of the same exercise, individuals also seized the opportunity to make changes to their existing electoral details. A substantial 4.99 lakh forms were submitted for a change of address and correction of entries in the electoral roll. Additionally, 1.21 lakh individuals voiced objections through Form 7, expressing concerns regarding the inclusion and deletion of names in the electoral roll.
