Chennai: Days after the Supreme Court asked Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to hold a meeting with Chief Minister MK Stalin to resolve the impasse over the non-grant of assent to Bills by him passed by the state legislative Assembly, the former invited the CM for a meeting, however, CM Stalin refused to attend citing he is engaged in flood mitigation works, according to govt sources.

The Chief Minister was invited by the Raj Bhavan to hold a meeting to discuss about granting assent to several Bills passed by the state Assembly. But on the part of the Chief Minister, in reply to the invitation saying, he has been occupied in flood mitigation works in Chennai and neighbouring districts. A central committee is also surveying the flood-affected areas, hence the state government replied that the meeting can be scheduled on some other day, the sources added.

The development comes after the Apex court issued notice to Tamil Nadu Governor on a writ petition filed by the State government, accusing the governor of delaying consent to the Bills.

Earlier, a supreme court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra directed Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi to hold a meeting with the Chief Minister to resolve the impasse over the non-grant of assent to Bills that have been pending for months.
