Southern districts of Tamil Nadu, including Thirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Tenkasi, experienced relentless heavy rain on Sunday, attributed to the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Indian Ocean and Southwest Bay of Bengal off the southern Sri Lanka coast.
In response to the adverse weather conditions, a precautionary measure has been taken, and a holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Tenkasi districts on Monday, December 18.
The impact of the downpour was evident as waterlogging was reported in various places across these districts on Sunday. In Kovilpatti, a railway subway succumbed to waterlogging as Thoothukudi continued to experience heavy rainfall. Simultaneously, Nagercoil witnessed many streets submerged in water following intense rain in Kanyakumari.
The situation raises concerns about transportation and daily activities, with locals grappling with the aftermath of the downpour. Authorities are on high alert, actively monitoring and managing the effects of the heavy rain to ensure the safety of residents.
As the meteorological conditions persist, residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions. The local administration is working diligently to address the challenges posed by the inclement weather, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in managing the impact of such natural events.
