In a significant development for public transportation in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin is slated to inaugurate the Kilambakkam bus terminus before the upcoming Pongal festival, as announced by HR and CE Minister PK Sekarbabu. The terminus, named the Kalaingar Centenary Bus Terminus, sprawls over an expansive 86 acres and comes with a price tag of Rs 400 crore.Despite facing weather-related challenges during the construction period, Sekarbabu expressed confidence in the completion of the project. The facility boasts an array of features designed to enhance the commuting experience for the public. With stormwater drains extending 1,200 meters, the terminus is equipped to house 2,310 buses, including omnibuses, and serve up to one lakh people daily.Sekarbabu highlighted the comprehensive amenities integrated into the terminus, including hotels, pharmacies, fire services, drinking water and toilet facilities, fuel stations, ATMs, dormitories for bus crew, and even a police post. This holistic approach aims to create a self-contained hub that caters to the diverse needs of commuters and ensures a seamless travel experience.Minister for MSMEs TM Anbarasan, Chengalpattu MLA Varalakshmi Madhusudhanan, CMDA member secretary Anshul Mishra, and Chengalpattu collector AR Rahul Nadh were present during the inspection.
