In a recent statement, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister and DMK youth wing leader, Udhayanidhi Stalin, found himself at the center of controversy as BJP’s state unit chief, K Annamalai, made bold claims at the airport on Sunday. Annamalai asserted that Udhayanidhi would break the DMK into pieces and toss them into the sea, escalating political tensions in the state. The exchange of verbal jabs comes in the wake of Udhayanidhi’s recent remarks, where he emphasized the demand for Tamil Nadu’s rightful share of tax from the union government. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded, cautioning Udhayanidhi about his choice of words. Annamalai, countering Udhayanidhi’s defense, accused DMK leaders of consistently making misleading statements about fund allocation to Tamil Nadu. He cited examples, pointing out disparities in financial assistance during Cyclone Tauktae and the pandemic. Annamalai highlighted the contrast between Gujarat’s request for Rs 9,836 crore during the cyclone, receiving only Rs 1,000 crore, while Tamil Nadu, during the pandemic, received Rs 868 crore against Gujarat’s Rs 304 crore. As tensions rise, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s scheduled visit to Thoothukudi to inspect flood-affected areas adds another layer to the unfolding drama. Annamalai expressed hope that the union government would release funds promptly, setting the stage for potential financial disputes and political maneuvering.
