Chennai, Jan 4: In the wake of the recent inauguration of the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) at Kilambakkam, commuters are raising their voices to advocate for the construction of a suburban railway station in close proximity to the bustling bus terminus. Recognizing the convenience and connectivity it would bring, commuters are hopeful that the addition of a railway station will further enhance transportation options in the area.
A recent repor highlights that the Southern Railways took a significant step toward meeting this demand by inviting tenders for the construction of a new railway station between Vandalur and Kilambakkam in October of the previous year. The move aligns with the growing infrastructure development in the region, especially with the newly established Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has allocated a substantial budget of Rs. 20 Crores to Southern Railway to facilitate the timely execution of the railway station project. This allocation underscores the importance the authorities place on improving connectivity and accessibility for commuters in the Kilambakkam area.
The CMDA has set a target for the completion of the new railway station by the end of the current year. This ambitious timeline reflects the urgency to address the increasing transportation needs of the local populace and the broader community.
The proposed railway station is designed to cater to suburban electric trains, featuring three platforms to efficiently handle the flow of commuter traffic. This strategic positioning is expected to provide seamless connectivity between the bus terminus and the railway station, presenting a comprehensive transportation hub for commuters.
The introduction of a suburban railway station near the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus holds the promise of transforming Kilambakkam into a well-connected transportation hub, benefitting both daily commuters and those traveling longer distances. As the project progresses, it marks a positive step toward the continued development of transportation infrastructure in the region, aligning with the broader vision of creating efficient, interconnected urban spaces. Commuters eagerly anticipate the realization of this project, which has the potential to significantly enhance their daily travel experience
