In a significant development for the sporting landscape in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation to inaugurate the Khelo India Games 2024. The event is scheduled to take place in Chennai on January 19, and it promises to be a celebration of youth athleticism and talent from across the nation. Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Sports and Youth Development, Udhayanidhi, extended the invitation to Prime Minister Modi during a meeting in Delhi on Thursday evening. Following the meeting, Udhayanidhi shared with the media that the Prime Minister not only agreed to attend the inauguration but also assured swift action on the release of funds for the relief efforts in the flood-affected districts of Tamil Nadu. Udhayanidhi emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “On behalf of the Tamil Nadu Government, I requested the Prime Minister for the immediate release of the National Disaster Relief Fund to undertake comprehensive relief, restoration, and rehabilitation works in flood-affected districts of TN as requested by our Honāble Chief Minister @mkstalin. The Prime Minister assured us that he would take necessary steps.” The meeting also touched upon various subjects of public importance to Tamil Nadu, with a specific focus on the multi-faceted development of sports in the state. Udhayanidhi presented a coffee table book to the Prime Minister, showcasing the successful organization of the CM Trophy Games 2023 and the Asian Menās Hockey Championship hosted by Tamil Nadu. Highlighting the potential of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023, Udhayanidhi expressed confidence that the event would serve as a platform to showcase Tamil Nadu’s organizational prowess and rich history in the realm of sports.
