The 47th edition of the Chennai Book Fair, currently underway at the YMCA Grounds in Nandanam, will remain closed today due to continuous heavy rains in Chennai and its neighboring districts. The Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI) made the announcement, stating that the fair is being granted a one-day holiday in consideration of the adverse weather conditions. In a social media post, BAPASI conveyed, “The 47th Chennai Book Fair is not to function today due to heavy rains in Chennai and surrounding districts. The fair is being given a one-day holiday today. The fair will function as usual tomorrow.” The decision comes after rains disrupted the fair’s proceedings last Sunday, impacting the experience for book enthusiasts on its fifth day. The YMCA grounds in Nandanam faced challenges with mud and water accumulation, making it difficult for attendees, especially the elderly and those with children, to navigate from the parking lot to the fair venue. While the temporary closure aims to ensure the safety and convenience of visitors, the organizers assure that the fair will resume normal operations tomorrow. The Chennai Book Fair has been a prominent event for literature enthusiasts and the publishing industry, offering a platform for book lovers to explore a diverse range of publications and engage with literary culture. Despite the weather-related challenges, the anticipation remains high for the resumption of the fair, allowing attendees to once again immerse themselves in the world of books and literature.
