Chennai, Jan 9: In anticipation of the festive Pongal season, the Tamil Nadu government has rolled out an extensive plan for special bus services set to operate from January 12 to 14, 2024. The Transport Minister, SS. Sivasankar, announced that a total of 19,484 buses will be in operation during this period, with a significant focus on easing travel from Chennai.
Noteworthy in the schedule is the departure shift from Koyambedu bus terminus to the newly inaugurated Kilambakkam bus terminus for south-bound buses to destinations like Madurai and west-bound buses to Coimbatore. These buses, mainly sleeper and semi-sleeper types, aim to enhance passenger comfort.
The Mofussil buses operated by TNSTC from CMBT in Koyambedu will serve routes to towns such as Thiruvannamalai, Tindivanam, and Villupuram. Additionally, buses heading to Bangalore and along the East Coast Road (ECR) will originate from CMBT.
Tambaram will host a temporary bus stand for buses destined for Thanjavur and Kumbakonam via Vikravandi and Panruti. Poonamallee bus stand will serve as the starting point for buses bound to Hosur, Arcot, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, among others.
In specific locations like K.K. Nagar, Madhavaram, Tambaram MEPZ, and Koyambedu, 11 dedicated ticket reservation counters will be operational to facilitate smooth ticketing processes.
