In a recent development, Tamil Nadu Advocate General (AG) R Shunmugasundaram has reportedly tendered his resignation from the esteemed post. The AG communicated his decision to resign to Chief Minister MK Stalin, citing personal reasons as the driving force behind this significant move. The formal announcement of his resignation is anticipated in the near future. Additionally, it is speculated that Shunmugasundaram has chosen to embark on a private legal practice following his departure.
Having served as a public prosecutor since 1989, Shunmugasundaram’s legal career has been marked by dedication and leadership. He held the position of State public prosecutor from June 1996 to May 2001, showcasing his expertise in the legal domain. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored as a senior advocate by the Madras High Court in 2000. Shunmugasundaram further demonstrated his leadership qualities by presiding over the Madras Bar Association from 2015 to 2017.
His political journey included being elected as a Rajya Sabha member by the DMK, representing the State from 2002 to 2008. After the DMK assumed power in 2021, Shunmugasundaram was appointed as the Advocate General of the State, a role in which he served until his recent resignation.
