Tamil Nadu Cabinet approves new women’s policy

In a significant development, the state cabinet convened on Tuesday under the guidance of Chief Minister MK Stalin and gave its approval to the new women’s policy for the state. The eagerly awaited policy is expected to be officially released by Chief Minister MK Stalin in the near future, marking a crucial step towards promoting women’s welfare and empowerment in Tamil Nadu.

Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment, P Geetha Jeevan, shared the news with media representatives at the Secretariat following the cabinet meeting. She expressed confidence in the positive impact that the new policy would have on the lives of women across the state.

The draft of the policy, initially unveiled by the ruling DMK party in December 2021, outlines key measures to be implemented for the betterment of women in Tamil Nadu. A pivotal aspect of the policy involves the formation of a state-level committee chaired by the Chief Secretary, along with district-level committees led by district collectors. These committees will play a crucial role in monitoring the implementation of the policy and addressing issues related to discrimination faced by women.

To ensure effective oversight and coordination, the Tamil Nadu Social Welfare Department will actively monitor the activities of these committees.
