In a significant achievement, the Tamil Nadu registration department recorded a historic day on January 24, generating an unprecedented revenue of Rs 200 crore with 27,500 registrations. According to senior officials, this remarkable feat marks the highest number of registrations and revenue achieved in a single day in recent memory.
Coimbatore emerged as the frontrunner on this record-setting day with an impressive 4,600 registrations. Following closely, Chennai secured 3,000 registrations, contributing a substantial revenue of Rs 100 crore, while Chengalpattu recorded 1,900 registrations.
Officials from the registration department attribute this surge in registrations to the auspicious nature of the day. On average, the department records 14,000 to 15,000 registrations regularly, but the spike on this particular day indicates a notable increase. It is worth noting that a significant portion of these registrations usually involves title deeds, partition documents, mortgage papers, among others.
The surge in registrations on auspicious days is a common trend, with sale deeds seeing a notable increase. Officials noted that there was a lull in activity during the Margazhi season, making the spike in registrations on January 24 even more noteworthy. Traditionally, the Tamil month of Thai, falling between mid-January and mid-February, tends to witness a rise in the registration of sale deeds.
