Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has achieved a significant milestone as it embarks on the expansion of the city’s metro rail network under Phase II. Building upon the success of Phase 1 and Phase 1 Extension Corridors, CMRL is now gearing up for an extensive infrastructure development plan to address the increasing ridership in Corridors 1 & 2. The ambitious Phase II initiative entails the creation of three additional metro rail corridors, collectively spanning a length of 116.1 km and incorporating a total of 119 metro stations. This expansion plan is crucial to meeting the growing demand for efficient and reliable public transportation in Chennai. One of the highlights of Phase II is Corridor 4, designed as an east-west alignment covering 26.1 km. This corridor will connect the beachfront from Light House station to Poonamallee Depot, providing a strategic link across key areas of the city. Comprising 9 underground stations and 18 elevated stations, Corridor 4 aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents and commuters. The underground section of Corridor 4, spanning 10 km, is poised to traverse iconic areas of Chennai, including Mylapore, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet, Bharatidasan, Boat Club, Panagal Park, and Kodambakkam. This alignment strategically addresses the transportation needs of diverse neighborhoods, catering to both residential and commercial hubs. For the successful execution of Corridor 4, four Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed, underscoring the commitment to efficient and precise construction methodologies. ##@
