OPS challenges AIADMK leadership

In a bold move, expelled AIADMK leader and Bodinayakkanur MLA O Panneerselvam has labeled the party’s general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, as a dictator. Speaking at a program titled “Urimai Meetpu Kuzhu” in Madurai on Monday, OPS expressed his determination to establish an AIADMK without the influence of Palaniswami.
Panneerselvam asserted that Palaniswami had unilaterally declared himself the AIADMK general secretary at what he deemed an ‘illegal’ general council meeting. According to OPS, the rise of Palaniswami to the position of Chief Minister was only possible due to the involvement of VK Sasikala, the former interim general secretary of AIADMK.
“EPS seldom bothered to follow laws and regulations set by the AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran,” claimed Panneerselvam. He highlighted that J Jayalalithaa, the former Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo, was declared as the permanent general secretary of the party, with a resolution adopted to solidify her position.
Panneerselvam pointed out that according to the party’s regulations, key positions were supposed to remain in effect until 2026. Based on these principles, he called for Palaniswami to step down from his leadership role within AIADMK. OPS warned that if Palaniswami refused to resign, the party cadre would take matters into their own hands and force him out.
