Chennai, Feb 7:Ā A terrifying incident unfolded on Tuesday in Chennai when a woman passenger fell from a moving government bus after the floor beneath her seat collapsed. The 27-year-old woman had a narrow escape as alert co-passengers quickly alerted the driver, prompting the bus to come to a halt.The incident occurred on government city bus route no. 59, traveling from Chennai Thiruvekkadu to Vallalar Nagar. As the bus approached the Amijikarai area, the board under the seat where the woman was sitting suddenly gave way, creating a hole through which she slipped.
Prompt action by fellow passengers ensured that the driver and conductor were immediately informed, leading to the swift halting of the bus. The woman was rescued and promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the fall.
Following the incident, authorities from the police and transport department rushed to the scene to initiate an investigation. Passengers who were on board the bus at the time of the incident were transferred to another bus as officials conducted their inquiries.
Law enforcement has registered a case and is actively probing the circumstances leading to the floor collapse. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked concerns about the safety standards and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure in Chennai.
In response to the incident, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai criticized the ruling DMK government, citing it as an example of the state’s governance issues.
