Premalatha clarifies on alliance talks

In a surprising turn of events, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) general secretary, Premalatha Vijayakant, has clarified her party’s stance on forming alliances for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, dispelling earlier statements regarding a potential alliance based on seat allocations.

Addressing reporters after a meeting with office bearers at the DMDK headquarters in Koyambedu, Premalatha emphasized that her previous remarks had been misinterpreted by the media. She clarified that it was the district secretaries of the party who had expressed the desire for 14 Lok Sabha seats and one Rajya Sabha seat from a potential alliance partner. These opinions, she asserted, did not reflect the official stance of the party leadership or herself.

Premalatha further elaborated that the district secretaries had also discussed the possibility of joining alliances with various parties including the DMK, AIADMK, and BJP. However, she stressed the need for clarity and transparency regarding the alliance decisions and reiterated that no official decision had been made by the party leadership yet.

The DMDK leader’s clarification comes in the wake of earlier statements made on February 7, where she had announced the party’s intention to contest the parliamentary elections in alliance with a party willing to allocate 14 Lok Sabha seats and one Rajya Sabha seat.
