The bustling Koyambedu wholesale market complex in Chennai witnesses the daily hustle and bustle of traders and shoppers, generating approximately 90 tonnes of waste each day. To manage this substantial volume of waste effectively, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has recently initiated a fresh tender for the collection and transportation of waste from the market complex. Under the new tender, CMDA has invited e-tenders for the day-to-day collection and transportation of solid waste within the Koyambedu market complex. This comprehensive initiative encompasses various areas within the complex, including shopping streets, truck bays, service streets, and both internal and external roads. The waste collected will predominantly consist of items from the flowers, fruits, vegetables, and food grain markets, reflecting the diverse activities and offerings within the complex. The waste collected from the market will be transported to designated processing facilities, transfer sections, and landfill areas managed by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). The approximate value of the work, excluding GST, stands at Rs 8.53 crores, highlighting the scale and importance of this endeavor in ensuring proper waste management practices within the market complex. Interested parties are encouraged to participate in the tender process by submitting their bids online from February 14 to February 20.
