Man arrested for setting fire outside Kapali temple

The city police have apprehended a 31-year-old man suspected of setting a fire outside the revered Kapaleeswarar temple in Mylapore approximately a week ago. The suspect, identified as V Deenadayalan from Anakaputhur, was taken into custody following a thorough investigation aided by CCTV footage. According to police reports, the suspect was captured on CCTV cameras, which helped law enforcement officials to narrow down their search. In a swift operation during the early hours of Tuesday, Deenadayalan was apprehended while attempting to steal a two-wheeler near the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH). Describing the suspect’s background, police disclosed that Deenadayalan is unemployed and leads a transient lifestyle, often sleeping on sidewalks and temple premises. His arrest sheds light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and offers insight into the motivations behind his actions. The incident, which occurred on February 7, saw Deenadayalan arriving at the eastern entrance of the Kapaleeswarar Temple on a bicycle. He proceeded to pour petrol from a bottle and set fire to some clothes outside the temple premises before offering prayers and leaving the scene.
