INS Chennai to visit city tomorrow

Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and constructed guided missile destroyer, INS Chennai, is currently making headlines for its remarkable achievements and upcoming engagements. Commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 21, 2016, INS Chennai, the third and final ship of the Kolkata class stealth guided missile destroyers, was constructed by Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.In recent weeks, INS Chennai has been actively involved in anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea, demonstrating its prowess and commitment to maritime security. Notably, the vessel successfully thwarted a hijacking attempt onboard the MV Lila Norfolk off the coast of Somalia, showcasing the Indian Navy’s capability to respond swiftly and decisively to maritime threats.Adding to its accolades, INS Chennai is set to visit its namesake city, Chennai, from February 16 to 17. Commanded by Captain Raghu Nair, the destroyer is en route to Vishakapatnam to participate in the upcoming MILAN 2024 exercise, scheduled from February 19 to 27. MILAN 2024 is a multilateral naval exercise that will witness the participation of more than 50 countries, highlighting India’s commitment to fostering cooperation and strengthening maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.The visit of INS Chennai to Chennai holds symbolic significance, underscoring the strong bond between the Indian Navy and the city from which the destroyer derives its name. It presents an opportunity for the residents of Chennai to witness firsthand the capabilities of one of the Indian Navy’s most advanced warships and to pay tribute to the men and women who serve onboard.
