The health authorities in Tamil Nadu are gearing up for a crucial public health initiative as they prepare to conduct the Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign on March 3, 2024. This annual event, known as the National Immunization Day for Polio, aims to ensure that every child in the state receives essential protection against the debilitating disease of polio.Led by the Deputy Director of Health Services, preparations for the campaign are in full swing across the state. The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has issued operational guidelines, planning, reporting formats, and micro-plan formats to streamline the execution of the immunisation drive.
With meticulous planning and coordination, a staggering number of 43,051 booths are set to be established across Tamil Nadu. These booths will serve as the frontline hubs for administering polio vaccines to children in need. To facilitate this massive undertaking, an impressive workforce of 2 lakh staff members will be deployed, ensuring that the campaign reaches every corner of the state.
In addition to the manpower, the campaign will also rely on a fleet of 3,000 vehicles that have been mobilized for the purpose. These vehicles will play a crucial role in transporting vaccines, medical supplies, and personnel to remote and inaccessible areas, ensuring that even the most underserved communities are reached.
The primary objective of the Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign is to vaccinate a staggering total of 57.83 lakh children across Tamil Nadu. This ambitious target translates to administering a total of 89.24 lakh vaccine doses, underscoring the scale and significance of the initiative.
