Southern Railway has announced the permanent addition of General Class Coaches to several unreserved trains, aiming to enhance passenger capacity and comfort. The changes will be implemented in two key train routes starting in early July 2024.Yesvantpur-Salem Unreserved Express
Train No. 16211/16212, operating between Yesvantpur Junction and Salem Junction, will be augmented with two additional General Second Class Coaches. The augmentation will commence from Yesvantpur on July 4, 2024, and from Salem on July 5, 2024. Following this enhancement, the train’s composition will include 15 General Second Class Coaches and 2 Luggage cum Brake Vans.
SMVT Bengaluru-Karaikal Unreserved Express
Similarly, Train No. 16529/16530, running between SMVT Bengaluru and Karaikal, will see a permanent augmentation of two General Second Class Coaches. This change will take effect from SMVT Bengaluru on July 6, 2024, and from Karaikal on July 7, 2024. After the augmentation, the train will comprise 12 General Second Class Coaches and 2 Luggage cum Brake Vans.
Southern Railway’s initiative to increase the number of General Class Coaches is a response to the growing demand for unreserved travel, aiming to provide more convenience to passengers who prefer or require this mode of travel. This enhancement is expected to alleviate congestion and improve the overall travel experience on these routes.
