In anticipation of the construction of three new metro stations—Anna Flyover Metro Station, Nungambakkam Metro Station, and Sterling Road Metro Station—in Chennai, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced the implementation of traffic diversions on a trial basis this Sunday. These diversions aim to facilitate the smooth execution of construction activities while minimizing disruptions to regular traffic flow. The following traffic diversions will be enforced:
Chetpet to Gemini Flyover: Vehicles traveling from Chetpet to Gemini Flyover will be directed through a one-way diversion via College Road, Haddows Road, and Uthamar Gandhi Salai. This route adjustment is designed to reroute traffic away from the construction area, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Gemini Flyover to Valluvar Kottam: Vehicles heading from Gemini Flyover will be redirected through Uthamar Gandhi Road and Dr. MGR Road towards Valluvar Kottam. This diversion will enable seamless movement of vehicles away from the construction zone, allowing construction activities to proceed without hindrance.
Aminjikarai Traffic: Traffic destined for Aminjikarai will be diverted at Tank Bund Road (left turn), proceeding via Nelson Manickam Road to reach Aminjikarai and other destinations. This rerouting strategy aims to minimize congestion in the vicinity of the construction site and ensure the safety of commuters.
Valluvar Kottam to Gemini Flyover: Vehicles traveling from Valluvar Kottam to Gemini Flyover will take a diversion at Valluvar Kottam junction, following Valluvar Kottam High Road and Uthamar Gandhi Salai. This diversionary route will help manage traffic flow effectively, allowing construction work to proceed without disrupting the movement of vehicles.
The implementation of these traffic diversions underscores CMRL’s commitment to ensuring the smooth execution of construction activities for the new metro stations while prioritizing the safety and convenience of commuters. Motorists are advised to familiarize themselves with the designated diversion routes and exercise caution while navigating the affected areas.
