Govt cancels charges for supplementary exams

In a significant move aimed at easing financial burdens on students, the Department of School Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has announced the cancellation of Tatkal charges for students applying to write supplementary examinations.
Previously, students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th Standards (+1 & +2) who failed their public examinations and subsequently applied to write supplementary examinations were required to pay special fees, known as Tatkal charges, within a 7-day time period.
However, in a recent Government Order issued by Kumaragurubaran, the Chief Secretary of the Department of School Education, the imposition of Tatkal charges has been revoked. This decision comes as a relief to students and their families, particularly those facing financial constraints.
The Government Order highlights the historical context of Tatkal charges, citing a directive issued in the year 2000 by the Department of School Education. Under this directive, private candidates applying for supplementary examinations in the 10th, 11th, and 12th Standards were required to pay an additional special allocation charge of Rs. 1000/-, in addition to the examination fee. Similarly, private students applying for the Matric Anglo-Indian Examination and the 8th Standard Supplementary examinations were subject to a special allocation charge of Rs. 500/-.
