AIADMK interviews aspirants for LS polls

In a proactive move to gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami initiated the crucial process of interviewing seat aspirants at the party headquarters. Concurrently, his political rival, O Panneerselvam, conducted a similar exercise at a hotel in the city, underscoring the party’s commitment to thorough candidate selection.

The eleventh-hour announcement of the candidate selection process by O Panneerselvam followed the invitation for applications on Saturday, covering the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone constituency in Puducherry. Commencing the two-day evaluation, Palaniswami and senior leaders meticulously interviewed aspirants for various constituencies across the state, spanning from Tiruvallur to Coimbatore and beyond.

With a keen focus on inclusivity, the AIADMK leadership prioritised constituencies such as Tiruvallur (reserved), Chennai North, South, and Central, along with significant regions in Ranipet, Vellore, Krishnagiri, and other western districts. The comprehensive process aims to identify candidates who resonate with the party’s vision and are poised to represent the interests of their constituents effectively.

Despite receiving approximately 2,400 applications, the party commenced the candidate selection process without finalizing the alliance, citing uncertainty surrounding the PMK’s stance. An insider revealed that the AIADMK is preparing for all eventualities, ensuring a contingency plan if alliance negotiations do not yield the desired outcome.

Palaniswami, while addressing the ongoing alliance talks, emphasised the importance of maintaining amicable relations with potential partners. He stressed the need for unity among alliance members, urging them to set aside differences and collectively work towards securing victory for the coalition candidates.

“At present, we are not sure about constituencies that go to our allies. Everyone should keep away their differences and work for the victory of our candidates. If there is any issue, we should resolve it through dialogue,” Palaniswami stated, underlining the significance of collaborative efforts in navigating the intricacies of coalition politics.
