The much-anticipated trailer for GV Prakash’s upcoming film “Rebel” has been unveiled, offering a glimpse into a riveting narrative of student rebellion and political machinations. Directed by debutant filmmaker Nikesh RS and also featuring Mamitha Baiju in a pivotal role, “Rebel” promises to captivate audiences with its gripping storyline and compelling performances.
The nearly two-minute-long trailer sets the stage in a college located in Kerala, where GV Prakash’s character, Kadhir, hails from Munnar. Kadhir finds himself enamored by Mamitha Baiju’s character, setting the tone for a complex and intense narrative. However, the tranquil college atmosphere is shattered when riots erupt between Tamilians and Malayalis, with politicians exploiting the situation for their own gain, manipulating the unrest to garner votes.
Amidst the chaos and violence that ensues, Kadhir emerges as a central figure, leading a rebellion to seek justice for his community. The trailer offers glimpses of intense confrontations, bloodshed, and the unyielding spirit of the students determined to fight against injustice and oppression.
Director Nikesh RS, reflecting on the film’s premise, shared insights into its thematic depth, stating, “I was brought up in Kerala’s Munnar. It is a period film which will showcase the life of people in the town. The film will center around students who study there and how they are affected by the politics unfolding in the institution.”
“Rebel” is positioned as a film with significant resonance for Tamil audiences, offering a poignant exploration of social and political dynamics. Nikesh emphasized the importance of telling such stories, asserting, “This is an important story that needs to be told and holds relevance for years to come.”
In addition to GV Prakash and Mamitha Baiju, “Rebel” boasts a talented ensemble cast including Karunaas, Subramania Siva, Shalu Rahim, Venkatesh V.P., Aaditya Bhaskar, Kalloori Vinoth, and Aathira, among others. The film’s technical crew, comprising cinematographer Arun Radhakrishnan and editor Vetre Krishnan, ensures a visually arresting and seamless cinematic experience.
With a U/A certification from the censor board, “Rebel” is slated to hit theaters on March 22.
