In the midst of growing concerns over Bengaluru’s water scarcity, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has vehemently dismissed accusations made by the opposition BJP regarding the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Labeling the allegations as “lies,” Siddaramaiah assured the public that not a single drop of water will be diverted to Tamil Nadu while Bengaluru grapples with a severe water crisis.Addressing the issue, Siddaramaiah stated, “All that is a lie. Who will let the water flow, that too in this situation? We will not give even a drop of water to Tamil Nadu without retaining water for our consumption.” He emphasized that Karnataka remains steadfast in prioritizing its own water needs and affirmed that no water will be allocated to Tamil Nadu without ensuring sufficient reserves for the state’s own use.
Furthermore, Siddaramaiah clarified that neither Tamil Nadu had requested additional water nor had any directive been issued to Karnataka to release water to the neighboring state. “Why will we give them water when they have not asked for it?” he questioned, underscoring Karnataka’s commitment to safeguarding its water resources during this critical period.
The assurance from the Chief Minister comes amid escalating concerns over the water situation in Bengaluru, where residents have been grappling with dwindling water supplies and escalating demands.
