The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has announced that its president, Thol Thirumavalavan, and the party’s general secretary, D Ravikumar, will be re-contesting from Chidambaram and Villupuram Lok Sabha constituencies, respectively, under the party’s ‘pot’ symbol.
Both Thirumavalavan and Ravikumar, who were allocated their sitting seats by the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, will contest on the VCK’s symbol, a departure from the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when Thirumavalavan contested under the party’s symbol and Ravikumar under the DMK’s Rising Sun symbol.
Addressing reporters, Thirumavalavan expressed confidence in the DMK-led alliance’s prospects, predicting a sweep of all 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the upcoming April 19 polls.
“I will be contesting from Chidambaram constituency for the sixth time, and Ravikumar is contesting from Villupuram for the second time. I hope the people of Chidambaram will vote for me and send me to Parliament,” Thirumavalavan affirmed.
Commenting on the PMK’s decision to join the BJP-led alliance in the state, Thirumavalavan criticized both parties for their divisive ideologies rooted in caste-based and religion-based politics. He asserted that the BJP-PMK alliance would not significantly impact their vote share, emphasizing that PMK had knowingly aligned with the BJP despite its attempts to dominate the AIADMK and PMK.
