With the Tamil Nadu elections scheduled for April 19, 2024, preparations are underway to ensure that every eligible voter can exercise their democratic right, including those who are differently abled or senior citizens unable to visit polling booths. In a commendable move, special arrangements have been made to facilitate voting from their respective homes for individuals with disabilities (40% or more) and senior citizens aged 85 and above.
To avail of this facility, eligible voters must fill up and submit Form 12D by the deadline of March 25. Booth level officials have been diligently visiting the homes of these individuals to assist them in completing the forms using details from their voter ID cards. However, individuals who have not yet received assistance within two days are encouraged to contact the respective district helplines for prompt support.
In Chennai district alone, there are approximately 11,600 differently abled persons and 65,800 individuals aged 85 and above. Those requiring assistance can call the helplines 1913 or 1950 for guidance and support.
Similarly, in Kancheepuram district, there are approximately 13,677 differently abled persons and 14,270 individuals aged 85 and above. The helpline number for assistance in this district is 1800-425-7087.
In Chengalpet district, there are approximately 25,222 individuals aged 85 and above and 13,368 differently abled persons. For assistance, voters can contact the helpline at 1800-425-7088 or dial 044-27427412 / 044-27427414.
In Thiruvallur district, there are approximately 24,565 voters aged 85 and above and 19,478 differently abled persons. Assistance is available through the helpline at 1800-425-8515 or by calling 044-27660641 / 27660642.
