MDMK general secretary, Vaiko, has strongly criticized the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labeling it as a tactic to intimidate opposition parties ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Vaiko expressed his concerns, stating that this move poses a challenge to the Indian Constitution itself.
Addressing reporters in Tiruchy, Vaiko emphasized the significance of the forthcoming elections as a moral battle against the authoritarian tactics of the BJP. He condemned the BJP’s agenda of promoting a singular national identity, which he described as one nation, one language, one religion, and one culture. Vaiko asserted that the INDIA bloc, led by the DMK, is committed to combating the divisive and communal politics of the BJP.
Expressing optimism about the electoral prospects in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Vaiko expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc, under the leadership of the DMK, will secure victory in all 40 seats. He criticized the BJP’s misuse of power, citing the arrest of Delhi CM Kejriwal as a prime example of the ruling party’s attempts to suppress dissent and intimidate opposition voices.
Vaiko further asserted that the BJP’s aspirations to make inroads into Tamil Nadu are futile, as the state’s ethos are deeply rooted in the principles of social justice championed by leaders like Periyar and M. Karunanidhi. He highlighted Tamil Nadu’s rich legacy of progressive governance and emphasized the resilience of its people against communal politics.
