Edapaddi K Palaniswami, General Secretary of the AIADMK and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to securing statehood for Puducherry. Palaniswami’s assertion comes as the AIADMK’s Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu rally behind their counterparts in Puducherry to champion the cause.
Speaking at an election rally in support of G Tamizh Vendan, the AIADMK’s candidate for Puducherry, at the Uppalam grounds, Palaniswami underscored the challenges faced by the elected government of Puducherry. He highlighted the overbearing influence of the Lieutenant Governor, which severely curtails the autonomy of the elected administration.
Palaniswami pointed out that the elected government’s ability to fulfill its promises to the people is hindered by the need for approval from the Lieutenant Governor. This bureaucratic bottleneck, he emphasized, undermines the democratic mandate and impedes the effective governance of Puducherry.
