Seeman, the chief coordinator of Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), has called for the establishment of separate reserved constituencies exclusively for women candidates in elections. Campaigning for NTK’s Chennai South candidate S. Tamilselvi in Pallikaranai, Seeman emphasized the need for a level playing field for women in electoral politics.
Despite NTK fielding 20 women candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Seeman noted that in many constituencies, they have to compete with male candidates, resulting in an imbalance. He proposed the creation of dedicated constituencies where only women candidates can contest, similar to reserved constituencies.
“We want the system to be changed. Like reserved constituencies, separate constituencies should be classified where only women candidates can contest,” Seeman asserted during his campaign. He stressed the importance of empowering women in the political arena and ensuring their representation in decision-making bodies.
Seeman also criticized the current practice of candidates losing in Lok Sabha elections but subsequently being nominated to the Rajya Sabha and appointed as cabinet ministers. He advocated for restricting such appointments to elected representatives chosen by the people, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency in governance.
Addressing a public meeting in Mylapore, where he campaigned for Tamilselvi and NTK’s Chennai Central candidate Karthikeyan, Seeman delved into various issues, including Tamil nationalism and the Katchatheevu island dispute.
