Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator S Seeman has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reportedly learning about the Katchatheevu issue through the Right to Information (RTI) Act, deeming it an ironic state of affairs. Speaking at a campaign event in Erode, Seeman emphasized that the RTI Act was instituted to empower citizens to access information, yet it seems incongruous for a Prime Minister to rely on it for such critical matters.
Seeman asserted that the incident reflects poorly on the BJP’s approach towards Tamil Nadu, suggesting that the party only views the state in terms of taxation, resource exploitation, and garnering votes. He questioned the government’s inaction following a significant narcotics seizure at a port owned by the Adani Group in Gujarat, highlighting what he perceives as selective targeting of individuals based on their religious and professional affiliations.
Drawing attention to the prevalence of alcohol consumption in Tamil Nadu, Seeman called for the closure of Tasmac outlets, the state-run liquor stores. He expressed concern over the influx of North Indian workers into the state, attributing it to the lure of employment opportunities in sectors supported by alcohol sales. Seeman advocated for redirecting efforts towards skill development training for the youth, urging a shift away from alcohol dependency as a means of livelihood.
