Senthilbalaji appears in court for PMLA case

Jailed former minister V Senthilbalaji made a court appearance before the principal sessions court in Chennai to receive bank documents pertinent to his ongoing petition to be discharged from the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case.
In compliance with the court’s order, Senthilbalaji physically appeared before Principal Sessions Judge S Alli, where the original copies of the bank documents connected to the PMLA case were served to him.
The judge, recording Senthilbalaji’s appearance, extended his judicial custody until April 25.
Senthilbalaji had filed a petition seeking discharge from the PMLA case linked to an alleged job racket. While the order on the discharge petition was reserved, Senthilbalaji subsequently filed a fresh application to advance further arguments.
The principal sessions court granted Senthilbalaji’s application and instructed him to appear before the court to receive the bank documents he had requested.
Senthilbalaji was arrested under the PMLA by the Directorate of Enforcement on June 14 at his residence in Chennai. The investigating agency initiated the PMLA case against him in connection with an alleged cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as Transport Minister in the erstwhile AIADMK regime.
