Former Kalakshetra faculty arrested for sexual assault

In a disturbing turn of events, a 51-year-old former faculty member of the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation has been arrested by the City Police on charges of alleged sexual assault against former students spanning over a period between 1995 and 2007. The arrest comes following a preliminary enquiry conducted based on complaints filed by two former students, under the direction of the Madras High Court.

The accused, identified as Sheejith Krishna, was apprehended by Neelankarai All Women Police Station (AWPS) in February 2024, following a thorough investigation into the allegations leveled against him. The case, which was registered earlier this year, culminated in Krishna’s arrest on Monday, marking a significant development in the pursuit of justice for the victims.

After being produced before a magistrate, Krishna was remanded to judicial custody pending further legal proceedings. Police sources revealed that the complainants, now residing abroad, had lodged their grievances through an online complaint lodged with the City Police, prompting swift action by law enforcement authorities.
