As the dust settles on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami finds himself navigating turbulent waters within his party. With the eagerly anticipated results set to be unveiled on June 4, speculation abounds regarding the future of EPS and his standing within the AIADMK.
In a surprising turn of events, Palaniswami chose to sever ties with the BJP ahead of the elections, opting instead to forge alliances with parties such as PMK, TMC, AMMK, among others. This strategic move set the stage for a highly contested electoral battle, with the AIADMK seeking to assert its dominance in the state’s political landscape.
However, recent reports suggest that Palaniswami is disheartened by the perceived shortcomings of the party cadre during the elections. Particularly troubling was the situation in the Chennai Central constituency, where issues of lack of cooperation during campaigns were flagged by DMDK leader Premalatha Vijayakanth.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior functionary revealed Palaniswami’s disappointment with the apparent erosion of loyalty among party cadres, highlighting the stark contrast to the unwavering devotion shown to late leaders MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.
Despite these challenges, there remain pockets of optimism within the AIADMK ranks, with some members expressing confidence in the party’s ability to bounce back. As discussions turn towards the upcoming 2026 assembly polls, there is a palpable sense of determination to regroup and mount a formidable challenge against the reigning DMK.
