Youth arrested in Theni for trespassing into strong room

Chennai: Despite heavy surveillance, a security breach occurred at the strong room where Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were stored for the votes polled in the Theni Lok Sabha constituency. The incident took place at the Theni Kammavar Sangam College in Koduvilarpatti when a youth, identified as Rajesh Kannan, entered the premises on his two-wheeler.

Security guards promptly intercepted the youth and conducted a thorough check of him and his vehicle. However, Rajesh Kannan, visibly frustrated by being stopped, vented his anger at the police officers and resorted to using abusive language.

Upon investigation, police sources revealed that a relative of the youth was employed at the college. Rajesh Kannan had entered the counting centre in violation of regulations, intending to meet this relative, under the assumption that the college was operating as usual.

Following a complaint filed by Koduvilarpatti Village Administrative Officer (VAO) Madhukannan, the PC Patty police have taken action. Rajesh Kannan has been booked under six sections of the law and subsequently arrested.

The incident underscores the importance of maintaining strict security protocols, especially during crucial phases such as election vote counting. Authorities are expected to remain vigilant to prevent any further breaches and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
