In a significant development at Tiruchy International Airport, immigration officials apprehended a passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday for possessing a fake passport. The incident unfolded during routine inspections conducted by immigration authorities, underscoring the vigilance and commitment to security protocols at the airport.The suspicious behavior of a particular passenger caught the attention of immigration officials as they scrutinized individuals disembarking from the Kuala Lumpur-bound flight. Upon closer examination of the passenger’s passport, identified as belonging to a certain ‘Krishnan,’ discrepancies emerged, prompting further investigation.
During questioning, the passenger provided conflicting statements, raising doubts about the authenticity of the passport and his identity. Acting swiftly, immigration officials escorted the passenger to a designated area for thorough interrogation, where his true identity was eventually uncovered.
It was revealed that the individual in question was Mehanathan, a 49-year-old resident of Ramanathapuram, who had resorted to altering his personal details, including his date of birth, on the passport originally issued to someone else. Mehanathan’s confession confirmed suspicions of fraudulent activity, leading to immediate action by airport authorities.
Subsequently, Mehanathan was handed over to local law enforcement officials, who promptly arrested him for offenses related to passport forgery and misrepresentation of identity.
